Dalhousie Castle wedding photographer | Megan + Daniel

Megan and Daniel’s intimate Scottish castle wedding was like something straight out of a fairytale. As Scottish wedding and elopement photographers, we are honoured to be travelling to so many wonderful wedding venues across Scotland and documenting so many love stories in all kind of crazy weather. But this beautifully intimate winter elopement was something totally different and special.

Megan and Daniel met through their work in property development and love their lives together in the United States. Daniel proposed to Megan at home under their patio, and to make it even more romantic, under the stars! They then decided they wanted to keep their marriage a surprise to their family so planned 11 wonderful days of a first-time trip to Scotland, where they would also get married and spend their honeymoon. When they felt the time was right to take the next step, they started looking for elopement spots in Scotland and initially, this was all an overwhelming process, since they had their busy lives, had not been to Scotland before and most importantly, their planned date fell within a worldwide pandemic!

So they decided to look for a Scotland based wedding planner to help them plan their dream elopement and that’s when they contacted Coleen from Conifer Events. When asked “what was the best decision you made when planning your wedding day?” Megan mentioned “hiring their wedding planner, Coleen from Conifer Events! She guided us on picking vendors and we couldn't be more pleased with the result of our videography, photography & flowers”. She even went further and mentioned “hiring a wedding planner is a must”

Megan and Daniel really liked the idea of doing things the traditional way and by this, I mean getting ready separately to keep it all a surprise. We always find this super fun and it definitely builds up a great sense of excitement and anticipation on the day. Usually, if the bride and groom are getting ready separately, we plan a timeline prior to the wedding so we can capture both the groom and bride getting ready. If we’re doing a photo + video package, we constantly switch between photo and video to capture everything seamlessly from multiple angles. This allows for switching between angles in their film which helps turning it into a cinematic film.

Megan mentioned that her favourite part of the day was the first look which took place in the library at the venue. It’s special moments like these that we love capturing at weddings and elopements. Photos like these are what fill a wedding day with emotions and are so lovely to look back at, in years to come.

As Megan and Daniel had a moment together, it was then time for their big entrance. Did I mention how unique their ring delivery was? Dalhousie castle is known for its falconry, so they had arranged their owl - Bonny to deliver the rings during the ceremony - and I must say, it was intriguing to watch Bonny play her part.

As the afternoon wore in, Megan and Daniel wanted to enjoy a bit of time together exploring the estate grounds. For us, these are the special moments we love capturing of couples on their wedding day because these are the moments you’ll look back at and cherish forever. If you’re planning your wedding timeline, we cannot emphasise enough on allowing some time for the two of you to spend some quality time together alone.

Kind words from Megan & Daniel:

“WOW! We are in love with your work and have literally gone through our photos every day since you sent them. The depth of color, the moodiness, the emotion captured is perfection. No one could've done a better job encapsulating our special day moment by moment. We thank you for your creativity and enthusiasm, even in the freezing cold and wind. You made what could've been a miserable experience so FUN!”
